Honouring Our Journey is one of the many programs within Culture, Education and Training area at New Directions. This service area provides support, healing, education, and life skills to individuals ages 13 and up who have been exploited/trafficked in the sex trade.

 

The Community Outreach Worker is responsible for: Providing support and encouragement to the adult participants in group and individual settings; Teaching of basic life skills; Supporting youth in cultural, recreation and educational activities in the community; Documenting file notes and maintaining records of all expenses and receipts and Presenting self and program in a positive and professional manner within the organization and in the community.  

Our program hours are Monday to Friday.  This role is required to work one (1) evening per week for group facilitation.

 

The successful candidate will have:

  • Child and Youth Care Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience 
  • Previous experience working with youth and adults who have been marginalized and/or exploited 
  • Demonstrated knowledge, awareness and sensitivity of Indigenous Cultures and Traditions and be inclusive of multi-cultural values, beliefs and lifestyles 
  • Excellent team skills, documentation skills, creativity and high energy level
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License is considered an asset

The salary range for this 70-hour bi-weekly position is $18.31 to $24.72 per hour, dependent upon education and/or experience.  This is a six month term position 

The successful candidate will be subject to Criminal Record Check, Adult and Child Abuse Registry Check, Prior Contact Checks; and must supply a current driver’s abstract if applicable.
