New Directions is a social service agency offering a wide range of resources and services that foster people’s hopes and dreams in their communities.
Adult Family Supports (AFS) is one of the many services offered by New Directions. AFS provides services for adults living in various settings including the family home, transitional or long-term care facilities. The Community Resource Worker is part of a team responsible for assisting individuals with their personal and day-to-day living needs in their homes and in the community. The role of the Community Resource Worker is to create positive working relationships with those being supported while responding to their unique needs, including physical, intellectual, spiritual and emotional.
Position details are as follows:
Saturday/Sunday 9:30am - 3:30pm
Due to the support needs for this individual, only male candidates will be considered.
Responsibilities Include:
- Patient and calm in stressful situations
- Active and willing to participate in physical activities (must be able to swim)
- Providing transportation to various locations throughout the community
- Self-motivated to work independently in the community while collaborating with the larger team
- Excellent communication with Case Managers and supervisors
- Grocery shopping
- Budgeting
- Assisting with access to medical care
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts (Days, evenings, and weekends)
- Creative problem-solving skills
- Providing assistance with personal care and hygiene routines
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent. Preference will be given to candidates with post-secondary education in the area(s) of disability services, addictions, mental health, and related education
- Experience working with people with intellectual disabilities is considered an asset
- Previous experience with providing personal care is considered an asset
- A valid Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle
- Valid First Aid/CPR
- Certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) is considered an asset
- Knowledge of FASD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Mood Disorders, Anxiety Disorders,
Schizophrenia, Borderline Personalities, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder would be an asset
- Effective problem-solving ability & strong communication skills
- The ability to work independently and as a part of a team
The salary range for this 70-hour bi-weekly position is $17.11 to $23.10 per hour, dependent upon education and/or experience. A full benefits package (which includes Health, Dental, Long Term Disability Benefits, and Pension) is provided to regular, full-time employees.
The successful candidate will be subject to Criminal Record and Adult/Child Abuse Registry Checks; and must supply a current driver’s abstract when a Driver’s License is required.
