Training Opportunities for Youth (TOFY) is one of the many service areas within Culture, Education and Training at New Directions. TOFY provides wrap–around case management, teaching of life and employment skills, and on–the–job training for youth 16–29 years old who have multiple barriers to success in life.
Team Lead/Instructor is responsible for mentoring and training participants in a variety of job skills both internally and externally. Experience in textile, manufacturing, hospitality and construction are essential. The Team Lead/Instructor will support and mentor participants in overcoming barriers to success. The Team Lead/Instructor is responsible for the development of job specific curriculum, teaching and modeling practical and soft skills, completing contract work, maintaining and servicing equipment, purchasing job specific materials, and supervising the job area.

Responsibilities/Duties include:
- Ensure that Café 6 is always compliant with Manitoba Health Certification regulations
- Provide oversight of participants in training
- Prepares lesson plans for specific job training
- Schedule and teach curriculum
- Maintain all training materials and documentation
- Provide direct supervision to participants, managing performance and areas of development.
- Support TOFY team administratively, including developing participant work schedules, tracking scheduled hours, and remitting hours.
- Documents performance management issues with participants and collaborates with Coordinator on the management of on-going performance concerns.
- Assesses participant’s emotional stability and supports participant in strategies to resolve problems/challenges.
- Support participants in meeting goals set out in individual support plans, such as developing practical and soft skills related to the worksite.
- Purchase necessary products and equipment, while organizing and maintaining records of supplies
- Handle documentation for vehicle expenses.
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous supervisory experience, while maintaining the ability to work independently on projects and independent tasks.
- Valid First Aid/CPR certification is required.
- Demonstrated skills safely and effectively using hand / power tools in home renovations and repairs.
- Knowledge and understanding of related Workplace Safety & Health legislation/requirements.
- Experience in the hospitality, trades and textile industries with knowledge of safe food handling and kitchen licensing.
- Knowledge and understanding of related safe work procedures.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Safe Work Practices, including but not limited to safe work procedures, ladder protocols, hazardous materials management & disposal, lawn care safety, bodily fluid and needle disposal protocols, site evacuation plans, etc.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Excel, Work, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
- Post-secondary degree in Education, Business or Social Services considered an asset.
- Experience supporting at risk youth considered an asset.
- Strong organization and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Must possess a valid Class 5F Driver’s license with access to a vehicle.
- Fluency in American Sign Language is considered an asset.
The salary range for this full-time, 70-hour bi-weekly position is $23.63 to $30.71 per hour, dependent upon education and/or experience. A full benefits package (which includes Health and Dental Benefits, Long Term Disability Benefits, and a Pension Plan) is provided to permanent full-time staff.
The successful candidate will be subject to Criminal Record and Adult/Child Abuse Registry Checks; and must supply a current driver’s abstract when a Driver’s License is required.
