New Directions is a social service agency offering a wide range of resources and services that foster people’s hopes and dreams and their community.
Shared Living Services is a new model of support under Community Supports & Outreach. Shared Living Services supports adults who have had barriers to learning independent living skills; however, want to live as independently as possible. Services provided are aimed at teaching practical skills for independence, but also how relationships, being neighborly to others can increase success at living independently and enhance quality of life.
Position details as follows:
16 hours / week
Job Responsibilities Include: (But are not limited to)
- Monitor and secure housing buildings to ensure the safety of all tenant
- Support individuals through crisis situations, and who may be in conflict with the law and struggling with addictions.
- Participate in regular programming with supported individuals, this includes recreation, swimming, work experience, and community events
- Ensure visitors do not enter the buildings
- Respond to crisis situations and/or contacting 911 (if visitors do not leave or in case of emergency)
- Conduct thorough regular and exit walk throughs of the buildings, reporting anything out of the ordinary, and ensuring doors are all locked, and the areas are secure
- Complete detailed reports and shift logs upon completion of every shift
- Promote the value and possibility of learning.
- Provide daily individual and group life skills sessions, such as cooking, cleaning, household finances.
- Responsible for the planning, organizing, and instructing of structured group activities.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent. Preference will be given to candidates with post-secondary education in the area(s) of disability services, addictions, mental health, and related education.
- Minimum 1 year of experience working with people with intellectual disabilities is required
- Experience working with people with mental health barriers preferred
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License with the ability to operate a vehicle unsupervised
- Effective problem-solving ability & strong communication skills
- The ability to work independently and as a part of a team
- First Aid/CPR and NVCI training will be provided.
The salary range for this 32-hour bi-weekly position is $17.11 to $23.10 per hour, depending on education and/or experience.
The successful candidate will be subject to Criminal Record Check, Adult/Child Abuse Registry and Prior Contact Check and must supply a current driver’s safety rating.
