The Youth Supported Independent Living Program, offers supports for youth who have develop more basic skills to live independently with supports and are interested in starting to live more independently as they continue working towards their adult life goals (i.e., work, education, relationships, self-care, life in community, etc.), and solidify their independent living skills (i.e., fully manage their budget, keep up with work and education responsibilities independently, use community resources, take care of their mental and physical health, connect with significant others and community meaningfully).

Position details as follows:

Monday - Friday (DAYS)

Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

  • Fostering positive, respectful and non-judgmental relationships with individuals and their supports
  • Ensures staff responsibilities are effectively carried out
  • Lead the supervision, evaluation, and performance management of staff
  • Maintains standards for administration and documentation, aligned with best practice and appropriate risk management
  • Financial duties which include balancing and accounting for monthly expenditures, and specific individual needs
  • Participating in the on-call rotation
  • The hours for this position range from 8am-8pm, depending on the needs of the individuals 

 

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Post-secondary education in a social services field (e.g., social work, psychology, disability, and community support etc.) 
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in direct support roles in the disability services field (or related field), with a minimum of 6 months of supervisory experience preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work with youth in care or individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities
  • Proven knowledge and ability in decision-making, problem-solving, crisis management and conflict resolution
  • Proven ability to provide effective leadership within a team environment with respect, professionalism, and cultural awareness
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to work within the person-centered framework
  • Applicants are required to have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Applicants are required to have current First Aid/CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification.
  • Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) is considered an asset.

 

The salary range for this 80-hour bi-weekly position is $22.07 to $28.69 per hour, dependent upon education and/or experience of the successful candidate.  A full benefits package (which includes Health and Dental Benefits, Long Term Disability Benefits, and a Pension Plan) is provided to permanent full-time staff.  This is a 2-Year Term position, with the possibility of extension.

 

The successful candidate will be subject to Criminal Record, Child Abuse Registry, Prior Contact, and Adult Abuse Registry Checks.  A recent Driver’s Safety Rating must also be provided.
