ADULT DAY SERVICES

RESOURCE INSTRUCTOR

Full Time (40 hr/week)

New Directions is a social service agency offering a wide range of resources and services that provide supports in a variety of settings and foster people’s hopes and dreams in their communities.

Adult Day Services (ADS) are a set of services that work to improve the quality of life for people who are living with disabilities and/or mental health issues.  There are six (6) different programs that offer a balance between work experience opportunities, recreational activities, and educational programming.  All programs use a person-centered approach meaning we take the time to build relationships with people and follow their direction in reaching their goals and interests, making them central to the supports they receive.

The Resource Department within Adult Day Services encompasses direct and consultative services to address the needs and goals of participants within the 6 different programs. These key areas are Communication & Literacy Instruction, Life and Social Skills Instruction, Sensory Program Facilitation, and Work Experience & Employment Services.  Currently we are seeking a full-time Communication & Literacy Instructor.

Core responsibilities include general assessment, development and implementation of strategies for each program and identified participants. Direct teaching methods and coordination of treatment planning for participants while consulting with the team members at each location are employed. Monitoring and evaluation of participant program outcomes and documentation is also completed according to the recording standards for each division.  Direct Service Work is also a component of this position.

Applicants must have:

  • A minimum Disability and Community Support Diploma (2-year program) or an undergraduate degree in a related field (e.g. Social Work, Education, Psychology).
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with people with intellectual disabilities, dual diagnosis, and/or behaviour issues in a Day Program or school setting.
  • The ability to create a safe and positive learning environment, through individual awareness, behavioral management, and group techniques.
  • The ability to be energetic and creative and work within an excellent team.
  • Developed time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively use Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.
  • Current First Aid Certificate and a valid Driver’s License are required.
  • Adult teaching experience or a related human service certificate would be considered an asset.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training and knowledge of American Sign Language would be considered assets.

The salary range for this full-time, 80-hour bi-weekly position is $22.07 to $28.69 per hour, dependent upon education and/or experience.  A full benefits package (which includes Health, Dental, and Long-Term Disability Benefits) is provided to regular, full-time employees.

The successful candidate will be subject to Criminal Record and Adult/Child Abuse Registry Checks; and must supply a current driver’s abstract when a Driver’s License is required.

The closing date for all applications is February 7th, 2025, at 4:30pm.
