Child Home Services (CHS) is one of the many programs offered by New Directions; this program provides homes for children and youth with behavioural and emotional difficulties. Our community-based resources are designed to promote a sense of belonging and provide opportunities to engage in a meaningful life. This is achieved by creating a home environment that welcomes the participation of the child or youth as a member, supporting his or her pursuit of interests and goals, and helping maintain and strengthen the bond between the child or youth and his or her significant others. We provide an environment that is non-judgmental, safe and caring.
This Float position is an excellent opportunity for those who enjoy keeping things fresh and looking to broaden their experience and knowledge. We are currently seeking an individual who is available for days, evenings, and weekends. The location of the shift is variable and can change. If an emergency or vacancy arises in any one of the homes, the Float Direct Support Worker (DSW) will be re-deployed and work their hours at that location. All transportation expenses incurred while on shift will be reimbursed at the approved rate.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Establishing meaningful, caring, and respectful relationships with children and youth
- Maintaining appropriate boundaries and setting limits with children and youth
- Providing care to children and youth in a community and residential setting
- Willing and able to travel from one location to another within the city of Winnipeg, with little notice
- Participating in programming to meet the individual goals of children and youth
- Participating in various recreational and physical activities with children and youth
- Cooking, house cleaning, yard work and other household maintenance duties
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
- Due to the nature of this position, a valid driver’s license, and access to a reliable vehicle is required
- 2 years of directly related education and/or experience supporting individuals with autism, intellectual/developmental disabilities, mental health issues, anxiety, self-injurious behaviour/suicidal ideation, FASD, behavioural problems and emotional difficulties is considered an asset
- A demonstrated awareness and appreciation of diverse cultures and traditions
- Effective self-care strategies and ability to remain professional in stressful situations
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) considered an asset
- A health care background, First Aid /C.P.R., and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training (NCI) certification are considered assets.
The salary range for this 80 hour bi-weekly position is $17.11 to $23.10 per hour, dependent upon education and/or experience. This position is eligible for a full benefits package which includes Health and Dental Benefits, and Long Term Disability Benefits, and Pension plan.
The successful candidate will be subject to Criminal Record, Child/Adult Abuse Registry, and Prior Contact checks. In addition, applicants will be required to provide a copy of their Driver’s License and a Driver’s Safety Rating.
